Evening Route

This evening I met up with Nige at Castle Rock of Triermain for a quick evening climb. Nige has pretty much ticked off the whole crag so I chose and set off on North Crag Eliminate (E1, 5b). We did the route in 3 pitches, 1st pitch felt a little dirty but the next two pitches were great. Several other teams out also.

Cragging and Bouldering

Today I met up with Jamie and Rich who have come down from Scotland for climbing mini break. Unfortunatly Jamie was unable to climb so he just sat in a tree all afternoon. I met them at 12 and we headed into Shepards crag. Rich had never climbed here so we did Fishers Folly (VS 4c), Kransic Crack Direct (HVS 5a), PS (E1 5b) and finished up on Brown Slabs Crack (VS 4c). As soon as I got home I had some food then headed up to Cowraik Quarry and met up with Dan, Gen, Fraz and Nona and bouldered well into the evening. Excellent day!

Malham Cove

Today Dave, Matt and I headed down to North Yorkshire for some limestone sport climbing. This is a regular venue for Dave and Matt so they gave me a good introduction to the polished rock. We did Consenting Adults (7a), I did this twice as it was pretty much all I could do, Something Stupid (7b) which I also found hard and finished on Yosemite Wall (7a+) (I only did half!). Looks like I still need to work on my finger strength! The polished rock and hundreds of different chalked holds will also take some getting used to!

Biking and climbing

Yesterday I took the bike out in the evening and did a 25 km circuit up and over Askham fell to keep hold of the winter fitness. Today I went down to Shepard's Crag in Borrowdale with Dave P. We climbed The Grasp (E1 5b), North Buttress (E1 5b), True North (E2 5b), Aaros (E1 5b) and finished with Jaws (E1 5b). All great routes, good gear and pretty much in the sun all day. It was a cold start but did start to warm up.

High Raise

Today with a foul afternoon forecast I decided to head out for a walk above Ullswater. We set off from Martindale we headed SSW up onto High Street, hitting the snow line at around 700m. We proceeded onto High Raise, our high point of the day (802m), over to Rampsgill Head and over to Angle Tarn. From here we went over to Boredale Hause and then down NW to Dale Head and back to Martindale. A good 18Km day. Winds were picking up as the day went on, consistently wet, not much in the way of snow falling and freezing level was above the summits.
